Danish researchers have found that green pine and blue led phototherapy are equally effective in slowing the baby's hyperbilirubinemia (commonly known as jaundice), a finding recently published in the journal Nature.
Aalborg University Hospital is located in Aalborg, Denmark. The hospital's pediatrics researcher Finn Ebbesen leads the research team to test the center's light blue LED and center with a wavelength of 459 nm. The green pine light with a wavelength of 497 nm emits two kinds of light on the baby with jaundice with the same irradiance.
In the previous experiments, the results of the fluorescent lamp test showed that green light with a central emission wavelength of 490 nm was more effective.
The researchers found that infants with more than 33 weeks of mild jaundice were exposed to random LED green pine or LED blue light for up to 24 hours. The results showed that the two shades had little difference in reducing bilirubin efficiency (p=0.53).
A total of 46 infants received green pine light exposure and 45 infants received blue light. The results showed that infants' bilirubin decreased by approximately 35.3% (32.5, 37.3) and 33.1% (27.1, 36.8), respectively.
The researchers therefore concluded that green pine and blue were equally effective in treating jaundice in infants under the premise of using LED light.
