Apple's new headquarters, Apple Campus2, which will cost at least $5 billion, will be launched in 2017. In addition to the British architect Norman Foster, the "spacecraft" is also dedicated to interior lighting.
Among them, the lighting planner is the Liechtenstein-based architectural lighting design expert Rogiervander Heide.
Fan Dehai is the current design and marketing director of the Zumtobel Group. He was the chief designer of Philips Lighting and was appointed by UNESCO as the International Light of Year lighting ambassador last year. .
His lighting design works all over the world. The overall lighting design plan from the Icelandic Opera House, the Beijing Olympic Stadium, the Bird's Nest Stadium, the Guangzhou Tower, and the Kaohsiung Dali Boutique Department Store are all from Van Dehai.
In addition, he was responsible for the lighting design of several retail stores in Apple and participated in the lighting planning of the new headquarters between 2009 and 2014.
Indoor positioning can be achieved with only three light sources
What effects can be produced when the lights are combined with the Internet of Things?
Fan Dehai firmly said: "I think that 100% of lighting and the Internet of Things will merge into one concept."
"If we add a sensor to the lamp to make the bulb smarter, then it can provide us with a lot of information, such as temperature, air pollution index, human dynamics, etc." Fan Dehai said that people can use mobile phones The lens captures the light and gets a lot of information from it, which is cheap and safe.
For applications in the building, the lights can be used for indoor positioning.
In general, GPS positioning is not possible in buildings. “But as long as my mobile phone can receive three different light sources, I can identify which floor and which room in the building you are in. For example, with lighting assistance, you can not only rescue the trapped person more quickly in the event of an emergency, but you can also order a cup of coffee and have it automatically delivered to your office.
And Fan Dehai believes that indoor positioning is the so-called Killer App.
"This is actually the basic positioning method of the sailors when they sailed on the sea two hundred years ago. At that time, they only had to look at the stars in the sky and they knew where they were." Van Dehai said poetically.
IOT can be "Internet of Light"
And when we walk out of the building and go outside, the lights can also be the nodes for information reception and delivery.
Fan Dehai said that street lights can sense traffic on the road and collect traffic information.
“If I go to a European city and want to find out where there is a parking space, GoogleMap won't tell me the answer, but the street light can help me find it. We can collect the information through the light and then pass it on to the phone. It's a great application.” He believes that if you understand the potential of the light, you can definitely find 200 or even more than 1000 IoT applications.
“I like to call it 'Internet of Light',” he said.
As for the new Apple headquarters, which is curious, Fan Dehai said that he can't say too much design details. But he revealed that Apple is very interested in the topics that are currently discussed, including in-line lights, inductive lighting and the health and well-being of users.
In addition, Van der Hai is also involved in the lighting design of many Apple retail stores. Taking the Apple West Lake Hangzhou store as an example, he pointed out that they spent a lot of time researching and developing, so that the LED lights inside could not see the bright spots.
In addition, when designing the lights of the Apple Store, I also hope that consumers will go in, just like going to Apple's products. "These designs are not just for lighting, but to create a space."
