Embedded products need to be maintained or upgraded for various reasons during the commissioning phase. If traditional local program update methods are used, the products need to be recalled and the cost of the enterprise is increased. If the embedded product is placed in an extremely harsh environment, the traditional upgrade method cannot be performed. Therefore, it is particularly important to study the online upgrade of firmware for embedded products.
According to different transmission methods of upgrade data, the online upgrade methods commonly used in embedded systems can be divided into wired transmission and wireless transmission. Common wired transmission methods are based on serial cable ̈ and Ethernet connection transmission. The wired transmission performance is stable and easy to use, but a dedicated cable or network cable (equipped with a network card) needs to be set up between the upgrade node and the server end, and the cost is high; the commonly used wireless transmission methods include GPRS/CDMA-based data transmission and wireless sensor-based network. Data transfer. With GPRS/CDMA connected to the Internet, the network upgrade is convenient and reliable, but the communication module is expensive and requires additional data traffic charges. The upgrade of the wireless sensor network mostly relies on the bootloader provided by the operating system. The method is easy to maintain and has high accuracy, but the upgrade operation is complicated, and the operating system has high hardware requirements.
This study proposes a remote firmware online upgrade technology based on ZigBee embedded system, and introduces the online upgrade process by taking the firmware remote online upgrade scheme in the LED street lamp energy-saving system that the author participated in.
1 Overview
In the firmware remote upgrade, the upgrade code wireless transmission uses the ZigBee protocol. ZigBee is a wireless network protocol developed by ZigBeeAlliance (developed since 1998), and the underlying layer is the media access layer and physical layer using the IEEE 802.15.4 standard specification. Its main features are low speed, low power consumption, low cost, support for a large number of network nodes, support for multiple network topologies, low complexity, fast, reliable and secure. The devices in the Zig-Bee network can be divided into a coordinator, a router, and an endde-vice according to different functions. Among them, the ZigBee coordinator manages the entire ZigBee network as the initiator and maintainer of the network. Through the connection relay of the router, the coordinator can control devices beyond its energy coverage.
