Surprised! "Space a flower" living in the LED light box of the space station

     In the International Space Station, a flower was opened. NASA astronaut Scott Kelly unveiled this historic news on social networking site Twitter and distributed a photo of a blooming orange zinnia flower, which was just past this weekend.

"The first flower that humans have ever cultivated in space has made its debut." Kelly wrote on Twitter, "Yes, there are other forms of life in space."

For the astronaut Kelly, who cares for it day and night, it really looks like the rose that belongs to the little prince by Antoine de Saint Exupéry. It is unique and beautiful.

From Kelly’s picture of Zinnia released on Twitter, this “space is a flower” with green leaves, flowers in a geese, orange, and orange gradient, fresh colors and graceful shapes, and on Earth. The difference in zinnia is not too big.

However, because of zero gravity, the petals in the space station are more open, like stretching all the way down the lower back, almost lying flat, not forming a subtle arc like the flowers on the earth.

This space zinnia grows in the LED light box of the International Space Station Plant Laboratory, which contains a set of cultivation systems consisting of red, blue and green led lights.

An article from NASA explained that Russian astronauts planted wheat on the Mir station in 1996. The Plants Laboratory of the International Space Station was established in May 2014. Its function is not only to study the growth of plants in outer space, but also to explore how to make astronauts self-sufficiently eat fresh vegetables in space.

Vegetable planting trials are critical to the future exploration of Mars, as future astronauts must grow vegetables to be self-sufficient in a space environment that lacks replenishment. In addition, there is a big advantage in planting vegetables to regulate the psychology of astronauts. Because of the long-term living in a small environment with closed, isolated, and no green plants, people are prone to various psychological problems.

The first crop of the International Space Station was red lettuce. “Two of the first batch of red lettuce were killed, so the astronauts treated the next batch of dishes very carefully.” Trent Smith, project manager at the plant laboratory, said that the second crop was planted. At the time, the astronauts paid special attention to adjusting the water supply.

Most of the vegetable sprouts thrive. On the harvest day after 1 month, the flight crew ate the dishes they had planted in the space station. Scientists see the taste on the tip of the tongue as an important step in the manned spacecraft to Mars. NASA said that if astronauts exploring space can grow their own food after flying off the earth, they may be better able to cope with the harsh space exploration, because these expeditions will take months, even years.
