Taiwan is expected to establish LED street light standards by 2009

The LED industry standard and patent strategy exchange seminar was held. Five drafts of LED-related standards were proposed for external reference. Since the LED standard has become the focus of global attention, in view of this, the “Technology Division of the Ministry of Economic Affairs” promoted the establishment of the “LED Lighting Standard and Quality R&D Alliance” in 1996 and implemented the LED standard formulation through the “Ministry of Economics” industry special program. A draft standard for several LEDs has been produced.

“Ministry of Economic Affairs” said that this seminar shared the current situation of the development of LED industry standards in Taiwan and the drafting of LED standards. The standard and measurement specifications of LED street lighting, the life test standard of component modules, component optics and electrical properties were announced. Five standard drafts, such as measurement standards, module optical and electrical measurement standards, and component module thermal resistance measurement standards, are available for reference by all walks of life. Under the leadership of the "Government" and foundations and public associations, the foundation of the draft LED standard will be used to promote cross-strait cooperation to develop LED standards to help Taiwan's LED industry grow rapidly. Driven by the “Ministry of Economics”, the R&D Alliance is expected to finalize 11 draft standards by the end of this year and will publish a total of 17 LED-related draft standards in 1998, and will continue to announce Taiwan LED standards in March 1998.
