The UN regulations have made a series of necessary specific rules for various skill parameters of the light source to ensure the safe operation of the lighting and signal light equipment after replacing the light source. In addition to the general technical requirements for the use of light sources for signal and headlight equipment, there are other specific regulations that separate the rules for the replacement of LED light sources for front fog lamps, custom headlight systems and various headlamps. Compared with other light sources, standardized LED light sources have very specific rules including thermal, photometric, colorimetric and other parameters, which greatly simplifies the planning of headlamps.

United Nations regulations on the rules of light sources

There are three main rules for light sources, and they are different from the three different light source skills:

Regulation No. 37: Incandescent lamps that emit light through thermal radiation

Regulation No. 99: Gas Discharge Source

Regulation No. 128: LED light source

When the gas discharge source was used in the category of car lighting, the No. 99 regulation was specifically formulated, considering the special function of the gas discharge source different from that of the incandescent lamp. Together, in order to ensure color rendering, the requirement for the least red component of the radiant light is proposed. The light-emitting area of ​​the gas discharge source is not as significant as the heat radiation source, and thus a special depiction of the curvature and spread of the arc is also necessary.

The introduction of LED light source skills has once again increased the corresponding regulations. Unlike other light sources, the photometric and colorimetric manifestations of LEDs are mainly determined by the temperature of the wafer, and the change in light output with the applied voltage is completely different from that of the heat radiation source. The illuminating characteristics of different LEDs are different, and the characteristics of the illuminating area and the spread of light intensity are classified and clarified.

All three regulations ensure the safe operation of lighting and signalling equipment after replacing the corresponding light source.

Regulation of the simplification of the light source rules

In order to alleviate the administrative burden of regulatory reforms, the regulatory body hopes to reduce the number of lighting regulations.

The ambition is to pass a statute that includes all kinds of lighting equipment, to be as technically neutral as possible, to ensure skill innovation in a functionally oriented view, and to not need to revise existing regulations when it comes to skill innovation.

With regard to the light source, it is not practical to reduce all regulations to one regulation because of the variety and utility complexity mentioned above. But experts have found a way to cut regulations on light source rules when promoting skill innovation. A large part of the revision of the regulations has been tied to other introductions of new light sources, because the product specifications of different types of light sources only include certain other specific parameters, and do not pay attention to how to get used to other regulations.

The new approach shrinks the three light source regulations into three rules: rules, skill requirements, and tests. With regard to the variety of light sources and other aspects of the category, it has become a part of the process, making the process of proposing and introducing new categories in existing skills more simplified.

Regulation No. 128 on the LED light source of the headlamp system

Regulation No. 128 for LED light sources now does not include rules for the use of headlamps. The regulations on front fog lamps and headlights do not give rules on the use of LED light sources.

In general, when the light source is used for the function of the headlamp, the demand is satisfied with the more severe thermodynamic conditions of the signal lamp, the greater luminous flux, and the more severe constraints. Therefore, experts are further increasing the definition and requirements for LED light sources in the 128 regulations, in order to ensure the safe replacement of the light source, even the most demanding low beam for the beam, the maximum visibility and minimum glare can be balanced as much as possible.

The introduction of thermodynamic grading and thermal stability tests at the highest acceptable temperature can support the optimal function of the headlamps under practical conditions. The choice of different thermodynamic grades of light source can be used for different applications, such as motorcycle headlights with lower heat gap conditions, vehicle front fog lamps, and high-energy vehicle headlamps with large heat load and close to internal combustion engines.

Specific rules regarding the contrast and uniformity of the light-emitting regions of the light source can assist in the headlight planning with a smaller glare level relief plus a significant cut-off line. The regulations therefore dictate the minimum contrast (generally greater than halogen lamps) for LED sources used for low beam lamps.

The requirement for uniformity reduces the difference in brightness between the cells in the light-emitting region and prevents the influence of black spots between some of the cells. In general, the quality of the beam after the replacement of the light source does not decrease.

After all, the strict constraints of the color difference of the light source at different viewpoints can prevent the disturbance to the users on the road.

Advantages of replaceable light sources

The use of standardized LED sources in car lighting can reduce the complexity of custom headlights and taillights. With the experience of integrated heat radiation source and gas discharge light source, standardized light source can provide suppliers with more choices, promote the development of the mall and the use of functions, and bring more stable, reliable and competitive not relying on skills. The supply chain is carried out. Unlike non-standardized, non-replaceable light sources or light source modules, the use of replaceable light sources simplifies the planning of car lighting manufacturers and enables cost-effective replacement of damaged parts.

The specific rules of the regulations on all safety-related skill parameters will eventually simplify the quality inspection and review process of the vehicle taillights and headlights. The replacement of the light source or the light source module requires the rating of each new model. Skill test.

That is to say, the use of replaceable light sources and standardized light sources will make the more simplified utility-oriented lighting regulations become more practical.
