FAW Harbin Light Vehicles Completely Moved New Factory Area and Created 100,000 Light Truck Bases

July 05, 2023

It was learnt from FAW Harbin Light-duty Automobile Co., Ltd. that the construction of the new plant of Harbin Light Industrial Co., Ltd. in Harbin Industrial New City had been completed. The company started the relocation plan of the old factory area on February 18, 2011. It is expected that the entire relocation will be completed by the end of May. The new plant will achieve light truck mass production. At present, the old factory of Harbin Company located at Xingguang Street in the power district has been completely shut down.

It is understood that FAW Harbin, which has a history of more than 40 years of automobile production, has always been committed to the production of liberated light trucks. However, the plane layout, process routes and other aspects have limited the reduction of business costs and increased production capacity. As the transformation project of the old industrial base, at the end of May 2009, the entire relocation and transformation project of FAW Harbin was carried out in the Harbin Road Concentration Zone of the Harbin Economic Development Zone. The total investment of the project is 1.423 billion yuan, and an annual output of 100,000 light trucks can be achieved after the first phase of production.

According to reports, Harbin's new plant is located at the intersection of Jiangnan Zhonghuan Road and Songhua Road. The project occupies a total area of 500,000 square meters and a building area of 200,000 square meters. The first phase of the project mainly includes the four major processes including stamping, frame and axle assembly, and auxiliary facilities such as public power system and plant engineering. Currently, the construction of the new plant area has been completed as a whole and some of the production lines have been installed.

According to the relevant person in charge of the company, after FAW Harbin Light has implemented the relocation of the factory area, it will break the original imprisonment and achieve a multiple growth in production capacity. At the end of August 2009, China FAW Group Corporation and General Motors Corporation jointly established FAW-GM Light Commercial Vehicles Co., Ltd., and FAW Harbin Light Co., Ltd. became a subsidiary of the joint venture company. U.S. General Motors will also bring advanced technology and management concepts to the company. This will enable FAW Harbin to improve its production capacity and quality.

It is reported that during the overall relocation process, the production lines of FAW Harbin's new plant will gradually test production, and by the end of May 2011, the relocation will be completed. The company will realize mass production of light trucks. After the relocation, the old plant area of Harbin, which covers an area of 400,000 square meters, will be collected and stored by the Harbin Municipal Government.
