8 Advantages Of Led High Bay Light

LEDs have taken the traditional lighting market by storm for a number of reasons, most notably their longer lifespan, lower energy consumption and lower maintenance requirements. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that Led High Bay Lights could save 190 terawatt-hours of electricity annually by 2030, equivalent to up to $15 billion. As the purchase price of lamps and fixtures continues to drop, more and more facility managers are looking to upgrade their lighting systems with LEDs because of their many advantages over traditional technologies. Here are eight advantages all store decision makers need to consider:

1 Energy Efficiency


LED High Bay Lights consume around 50% less power than traditional incandescent, fluorescent and halogen lamps, resulting in significant energy cost savings, especially for spaces where the lights are on for long periods of time. LEDs also aim light in a specific direction, unlike traditional bulbs, which emit light and heat in all directions (because LEDs are mounted on a flat surface, they emit light in a hemisphere rather than a sphere). This directional lighting capability reduces light and energy waste.

2 Extend Life

Unlike incandescent lamps, LEDs don't "burn out" or fail, they just dim over time. Quality LEDs have an expected lifespan of 30,000–50,000 hours or more, depending on the quality of the lamp or fixture. A typical incandescent light bulb lasts only about 1,000 hours; a similar compact fluorescent lamp lasts 8,000 to 10,000 hours. LEDs have a longer lifespan and can reduce the labor cost of replacing bulbs in commercial environments, resulting in lower maintenance lighting systems.

3 Low Temperature Operation


Unlike fluorescent lights, LEDs love the cold. At low temperatures, higher voltages are required to start fluorescent lamps, and the luminous flux (perceived power or light intensity) is reduced. Conversely, LED performance increases as operating temperature decreases. This makes LEDs ideal for refrigerated display cases, freezers and refrigerated spaces, as well as outdoor applications such as parking lots, building perimeters and signage. 5% higher efficiency (light source efficiency in lumens per watt, such as miles per gallon) measured in DOE testing of LED reefer lights at -5°C compared to operating at 25°C .

4 Durability


With no filament or glass housing, LEDs are breakage resistant and largely immune to vibration and other shocks. Traditional lighting is often contained on the outside of glass or quartz and is susceptible to damage. LEDs, on the other hand, tend not to use any glass, but rather are mounted on circuit boards and connected with soldered leads that are susceptible to direct shock, but like cell phones and similar small electronic devices.

5 Instant on


Most fluorescent and HID lamps don't provide full brightness when turned on, and many take three minutes or more to reach maximum light output. However, the LEDs turned on at 100% brightness almost instantly, and there was no thump delay. This can be beneficial during power outages or when employees open the building early in the morning when it's still dark outside.

6 Ride Fast


The more on-off times for conventional light sources, the shorter the lifetime, while LEDs are not affected by rapid cycling. In addition to flash displays, this capability makes LEDs ideal for use with occupancy or daylight sensors.

7 Controllability


Making commercial fluorescent lighting systems dimmable can cost upwards of a few dollars, but LEDs are inherently control-compatible as semiconductor devices. Some LEDs can even be dimmed to 10% of light output, while most fluorescent lamps can only reach around 30% of full brightness. LEDs also provide continuous, as opposed to step-level dimming (the transition from 100% to 10% light output is smooth and seamless, not layered).

8 No Infrared or Ultraviolet Radiation


Less than 10% of the power used by incandescent lamps is actually converted to visible light; most of the power is converted to infrared (IR) or radiant heat. Risk of burns to persons and materials from overheating and ultraviolet radiation (UV). LEDs emit almost no infrared or ultraviolet light. Rapid advancements in Led High Bay technology and more improvements are coming, reducing the cost of LEDs and increasing reliability. While it's easy to assume that LEDs are the right choice for all applications because of their energy efficiency, selection should be based on a variety of factors, including light quality and distribution, dimmability, and life expectancy.
